Our customer- centric AI approach.

At Panopto, we are committed to fostering trust in AI development through our platform’s customer-centric model for AI innovation and design. This includes AI product principles that put customers first, prioritizing data security and privacy, and ensuring efficacy in AI implementation roll-outs.

AI Product Principles

All Features Will Be Opt-in

Customers can choose which AI features they want to be enabled, ensuring alignment with organizational ethics, guidance, and goals. Customers can control how and when AI is integrated into their workflows.

Enhancing Core User Experiences

Panopto will not add AI for the sake of it; AI features are designed to enhance and supplement our platform’s mission to support learning. That means focusing on enhancing core user workflows, driving learning outcomes, and streamlining content creation.

Prioritizing Customer Validation

Panopto will validate the usefulness of AI solutions with customers during product research, design and rollout. In this way, Panopto will ensure clarity on AI tool value within core workflows and incorporate key feedback from our customers.

Data Processing

We recognize the importance of data privacy and security.  AI processing only occurs within Panopto’s secure cloud infrastructure. Your data never leaves your region.

Data security and privacy.

Our approach to data handling involves data isolation within our own cloud environment, ensuring that customer data remains protected.  We will ensure customer data is never used to train public AI models.  If any future AI development necessitates a different approach, such as using a third-party cloud or API, Panopto will make it clear to the customer which new features are affected prior to any release and ensure customers have control of their data choices.

Governance and controls.

Panopto’s Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, and Executive teams continue to remain focused on enhancing our governance control structure related to the use of AI technology. We are committed to initiating conversations around governance and introducing appropriate controls to safeguard against the potential misuse of AI technologies. We will work to align our AI program to the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and upcoming legislation, such as the EU AI Act.

Bias mitigation.

We understand the importance of bias in AI systems, so mitigating it is imperative. While achieving completely bias-free AI remains challenging, we’re dedicated to implementing measures that minimize biases in AI algorithms to ensure equitable user outcomes.

Phased implementation.

Panopto will adopt a phased approach to AI implementation, beginning with transcript-based intelligence and workflow enhancements. Subsequent phases will focus on generative and media-focused AI, ensuring gradual and controlled integrations of advanced AI capabilities.
